5 Minute Friday: She

she was the first person who loved me

she was the first person who loved me

She is my mom.

She is also my best friend.

She is the first person who loved me.

She is the first person who believed in me.

She is the first person who cried tears of pain, tears of joy and tears of love for me.

She is the first person who held me close and comforted me.

She is the person who taught me what it means to be honest, real and vulnerable. She is the person who taught me to love unconditionally and to always believe that people, in their core, are good. She is the person who taught me that it is okay to give voice to my fears and to not know all the answers. She is the person who taught me that it’s okay to not be good at everything, but to be the best at the things I do well. She is the one who encouraged me to love the stage, to write my words, to become my own person. She is the one who gives me strength when I am weak and who never, ever, has stopped believing in me.

She is my mom.

She is also my best friend.

She is the person who I long to talk to, to hug close and to share my ups and downs with. She is the one who I think of first thing in the morning and wonder how her day is going. She is the one who impresses me every day with her attitude, her heart and her ability to care about so many different people, animals and causes. She is the one who inspires me to be stronger than I ever thought possible. She is the one who reminds me every day that you choose whether to let the good days or the bad days define you. She is everything I hope to be when I grow up, and someone I strive to make proud every single day.

She is my mom.

She is also my best friend.
